The Arvus arrived!

The Arvus Lighter arrived. I must say it's a very nice looking model in the flesh and I'm looking forward to putting it together. There are some issues, of course, being a Forgeworld model.

Ill fitting canopy.

The fuselage is a little warped, but it's nothing i can't fix with a little hot water. The canopy is another matter all together though. It's pretty warped on the one side and there is a massive gap between the one wall and the edge of the canopy. I've looked online to see if others have had this problem and it seems a common thing. Even on the Forgeworld website you can see the gap as a dark shadow, though they never show you a direct on image which would reveal the problem in the model. Maybe it's just me and my desire to have things look like they can... oh I don't know, actually be used as a space to ground transport instead of the oxygen being sucked out through a gaping space in the cockpit making it unfit for space travel!? Maybe I'm just picky that way! Hah.

The warpage on the cockpit canopy.

Like i've said though, it's not a huge problem, and i may very well just model a new one in plasticard. It's a relatively simple shape and the details wouldn't take much to recreate either from scratch or using some quick mould and greenstuff. Either way I'll make it good.

The important thing to remember is that it was bought, primarily, to be used as a reference model to create a 1:32 version of the ship for the ongoing 54mm Inquisitor Squat project which has seemed to have taken over my hobby time (sorry Dwarf Marines). I'll try to find some time to start taking measurements and putting them into QCAD or Fusion so the basic shape can be built. One that's in place then it'll be time for the frosting.

I want to do a good job with this as it's been a while since i've built a scratch built model for fun and not for the business of a client. I'm kind of excited to be honest. I get to build an Arvus lighter in two scales, one from scratch, and then paint them up. That will be a mini project all of its own though. Hah.

Anyway, that's it for now and I'll catch you in the next update which should be more work done on the 54mm Squat warrior.
