Arvus Lighter

The Arvus Lighter is an unarmed dropship that has been deployed in the Imperium of man for a long time. It was used during the Great Crusade and some were even rigged to be weaponised if the needs arose.

In my last post I mentioned that I "may" create a model of some form of vehicle to go with my Squat Inquisitor 54mm warband. This has turned from "may" to "I've just got my hands on a gorram Forge World Avus Lighter because of this impulse so I'm damn well going to use it as a reference to make a 1:32 version of it".... So, it looks like that's what I'm going to do.

The other options I had considered were the Stormraven and Storm Eagle flyers. If I had gone for the Stormraven it would have had to be a variation with a hull extension. The problem with this was that it would have had to be an overly modified version. As well as this, as far as fluff is concerned, it would have painted a big target on the back of the warband. The Arvus, on the other hand, is used by both the Imperial Navy and Rogue Traders. This would make it more likely to be un-noticed. I also quite like the idea of it being a cut down bare bones shuttle used as a bit of a workhorse. It kind of fits.

What modifications would there be?

I have been thinking about this for longer than just this project. How would you modify an Arvus Lighter for use as a personal transport. The short answer is not much. The space at the back holds 12 people, but it could easily hold the warband and maybe even a couple of bikes/trikes in the back. It would stand to reason that a Squat army would have a couple aboard their ships too.

On a side tangent, what vessel would they have come down from? A Rogue Trader ship? Converted Jericho Class Transporter (I like this idea)? Some other form of scout, sloop or light cruiser? I think from a personal perspective it would have to be either the Jericho, Lathe, Ironclast or Hazeroth vessels. Jehricho being the larder option.

Anyway, so this is happening. It's going to be a thing. Hah. The good thing is it's a project i can just dip in and out of. I'll make sure I document the progress.

That's all for today though.
