Dwarf Marines: Scouts galore
It's been a while since i've done some work on the Dwarf Marine project, but last night i got to finish putting together my Scout sniper squad. They had been sat on the side, unloved, for quite a while and before i got on with anything new i wanted to have them done. However, in true me style i decided to also put together a 2nd Scout squad armed with Boltguns. I had been thinking about it for a while, how i would go about doing it, and i decided to use the legs from my Sci-Fi Dwarf troopers set (available over at gydran.com), the torso and other bits from space marine scout sets as well as some resin and plastic bits i had in my bits box.
Dwarf Marine Scout Sniper Squad
The sniper scouts came out really well. There was some jigging and cutting that needed to be done as well as a bit of minimum sculpting/filling.
Dwarf Marine Scout Boltgun Squad
With the boltgun squad, I prepped everything before putting them all together. It was good to have a plan for each one and don't Ng all the prep work before made the construction process fly by.
I decided to add a heavy bolter to the team. This model was the first and needed a little creative job handling to get it fitted together. In the future, if I were to make a third or fourth squad, there are some things I would do differently. Maybe even print a slightly scaled down version instead of the stock scout squad weapon.
I used stern guard veteran bolters (I think that's what they were) for the squads boltguns. I think they may be a but bulky, but they don't look bad so they're staying. That being said, if I were to do another squad I would consider Phobos pattern or other slimmer weapon variants.
Additions To The List
Since the last update i have added some extra units to the list other than just the 2nd scout squad. In addition there is now a Heavy Bolgun Rapier Platform, Impulsor, and Landspeeder Storm (for the scout squad obviously). I will not be adding any more to the the army until after i have completed the current list (see below for the updated version) and got them painted. I think this is doable as long as i can hold off from adding more tot he list. There is currently a Veteran Squad, Apothecary, Chaplain in terminator armour and a Reiver squad in various states of disarray, but they will be the start of the next phase once phase one is completed (yes, phases... it's the only way my head can handle it).
So what's left...
The Impulsor
The Impulsor is partly a Rogue Trader Rhino conversion with some 3D printed elements as well as some styrene sheet modelling.Currently, as you can see in the picture below, it isn't too far from looking like what it's supposed to be.
The Rapier Platform
I am going to be using a converted version of a model that will be released over on the gydran.com website next month. It's a 3D modelled gun platform that will fit in nicely with a few simple modifications made. The gun crew will be quite simple to throw together from my Dwarf Marine components.
Landspeeder Storm
'm not too sure whether to convert a landspeeder i already have or build it from scratch. I like the idea of it being more of an enclosed vehicle with sliding doors than an open topped one. I will have to think about it more and see if i realistically have the time to work on a scratch build project. I do like the shape of the current Space Marine Landspeeder, so a conversion may well be more likely.
The Rest Of The Units
The Juiciar is next on the list to be worked on along with finishing of Razorback #1 and then building #2. After those are done i will get on with putting the Assault and Outrider squads together. That will leave the Rapier Carrier and Impulsor as the last two things to do, though the carrier is quite a straight forward affair, so it may be done very swoon and quickly.
Making Headway
I feel like i've made some headway with the project and can see how it can all look once done. Doing these updates also spurs me on to keep working on it, so i will be continuing to write these updates right through until the end of phase 1 at the very least.
I'm actually looking forward to the painting part of phase 1, so i better get a move on and finish them soon. For now though that's it and i'll catch you in the next update.
