Dwarf Marines: Outriders
I've been posting more about the Artscale project recently, but things have been progressing with the Dwarf Marines too. In the previous post I had put up a new, updated, version of the force list which included some Outriders. I had decided to use some new models from my miniatures range as a proxy that I felt would work well with the whole aesthetic I'm trying to give the force.

I decided to go with Monowheels as, well... i had them already and i thought they would look good as a part of the force. Two Outriders put together awaiting arms and seats.
When put together they look really good and will make for a unique looking alternative to the blocky style of the GW bikes. I have a third bike to put together and then some arms that i need to chop up and reposition. I decided to stick with the decking bases for the bases too. I didn't have any of the same style bike bases for the Outriders. I didn't want to print some bespoke ones out, but I did had some that were close so i used them instead.

Dropping In On The Action
As well as the Outriders getting a bit of momentum I started putting together the Assault squad models... Well... one as a test.

The backpack was a 3D printed backpack to make it more to scale for the miniatures. I preferred the old-school RT era jump packs over the bigger and blockier ones. The legs kind of worked, but i think that a major repose or even a completely new sculpt may be in order for the squad. I feel this one is a bit clumsy in execution. That being said, it may look better once i've filled gaps and put a bit of undercoat on it.
Coming Clean
The last two things on the progress for the force is the second Razorback and land speeder Storm. As you can see in the previous Dwarf Marine post I had an RT era Rhino stripped and ready to go. However, I decided that I wanted to keep that for another project I am planning to do in the future so I found a couple of RT Predators on that well known auction site so i could harvest the chassis for the new Razorback.

Of the two that arrived one Chassis was pretty well damaged. The hatches on the sides had been completely cut away (I'll show you once it's out of the bath) and the previous owner had shored it up with foam and cardboard. Not great, but with the upgrade kit I'm attaching to it I think it'll be more sturdy than it was before.
The land speeder was another auction site win. Not in the best condition, but then again I didn't need it to be.

Blue is always a bit of a pain colour to remove, but once it's all cleaned and dry I will be removing the pilot and gunner, making the cockpit armoured, and extending the midsection to be more of an armoured dropship in looks. It's going to be a while before I get around to it though as there is plenty enough to do right now.
The project has been a lot of fun so far and I'm at that point where I'm starting to think about the colour scheme for the force. I need to ponder on this. As i am so close to completing I may start to paint the force once i've settled on the colour scheme.
Right... It's late and that's all for now so i shall catch you all in the next update.
Cheers

Hey bud, loving the outriders 😍 and looking forward to seeing a group shot once ready for paint.
ReplyDeleteThanks, man. Hopefully I'll have the three finished by the next update.
